Great break in a long drive, I think we'll make it a destination in the near future

I joined Friend 's of The Canal a year ago & have walked more than half of the canal with them. Great group, great historical scenery. Become a member & enjoy.
We enjoyed seeing the Hennepin Canal State park near the Geneseo Campground. The locks are amazing! The machinery that operated the locks is old and rusty, but it looks magical! You can imagine how it looked when it was working, a long time ago.
The only problem is that where we visited, there were no barricades between the canal, locks, and visitors. Small children need to be closely watched!
So much to do in one place! 172 miles for hike, primitive camping available in 9 different areas, fishing all up and down the canal, 98 miles of bike trails, 74 miles for horses, 91 snowmobiling miles or use that canal for a leisurely paddle! Why go anywhere else??
